"This project asks students to explore the discourse of their declared, or prospective, academic major, so that they can be engaged participants in the discourse community of their chosen field of study. Students will engage in primary research (collecting data through interviews and first-hand observations) and secondary research (consulting scholarly, popular, and professional publications). These sources of data will serve as the basis for the investigative essay. There are three main focuses to choose for this essay: 1) the forms of communication preferred in the major, 2) student perspectives and experiences in pursuit of a degree in the major, or 3) the job/professional opportunities available for people with a degree in the major."
